So we are just about ready with a video from Zambia. This is a video to help get more young people with the Adventure portion of the project (the part to finance the operation of the school), but that gives you simultaneously an insight into the area down there. Again this year was held Eventure day - and it was another success!
The day was this year held in slightly smaller surroundings and with a focus on comfort and get-together for the volunteers in Eventure - unlike last year where the day went into celebration and Eventure was set mark on the Copenhagen party maps with a bang of a collection celebration .... And yet - but more on that a little further down.
Eventure day was assigned to Cafe Retro who have donated money for Project Zambia, where we met early in the afternoon to hear stories from the warm countries of the former and current volunteers and get an update from Thomas on the development down to the plot. Interesting - it can read about here in general. The day ended with a quiz about Zambia and all the wonderful people who are part of the project. Julie and Glenn had of course their own category.
Afrovaganza
Then there was beer in it, along with Afrovaganza which Eventure this year had chosen to team up with in relation to the collection of money. Afrovaganza is one big party, with the clear objective: Collect money for Africa. What we did we! Eventure accounted for wardrobe and helped clean up afterwards - for the tidy sum of 10,000 lovely crowns, which will go to Project Zambia.
Thanks to Afrovaganza for support and a good party! And a big thanks must also go to the Mille and Per, who took a long stint in the wardrobe for the project! Thank you: o)
All in all a very nice day and with more dollars in the box to the project. Thanks to everyone who came and to the rest of you - see you next year!

Information before leaving for Eventure Village
(From one volunteer two another)
Dear Volunteer,
Welcome to Project Zambia! We are happy to have you two on the team and look forward to good coop ration. In this document you-can find everything you need to know before you take off to Zambia.
The project er running since 2009 and a lot of effort to have införts since from volunteers and local workers. The project is Striving two create a partnership mellom camp and the community att surrounds it. The Project is Aiming at etablere a school starting in 2013 for young Zambians in the age 15-18 years.
The project is part by the couple Glenn and Julie Mott, som lives on the plot med sina two children, Alberta and Willum. Living here is like being a part of one big family.
On the plot are a vegetable gardens and pigs, ducks, chickens, rabbits, goats and sheep elsewhere 2 nd and 3 rd generation bliver put on your plate!
Expectations for the volunteer
You've been accepted as a volunteer on the basis of a specific competence. You will primært work inden your kompetencer, but must også expect to give an extra hand innenfor field of general tasks.
As a volunteer you must be positive towards the following:
- You must kunne work independently and two structure your day in order som productive.
- It is expected att you are ambitiøse and having your own vision about the project and your insatser.
- That you gift a good work ethic, easy communication and respectful corporation with local workers.
- You must be hygienic and clean up after yourself and at times others as well.
- Remember att volunteers have different ages and needs, please respectfull this and be communicative about it!
Being a volunteer is not being a tourist with a paintbrush in your hand! If the project values does not turn you on and make ambitiøse you ska groove kunne bidra and lead the project in the right direction.
Working to Eventure camp
A typical day on the plot:
Breakfast - 06.30
Work - seven two 11.30
Lunch - 11.30 til 13.00
Work - from 13.00 two 16.00
Dinner - 17.30
A typical workday is 7.5 hours. When not working, there is hours of relaxation and social aktiviteter. When the work hours ends to 16.00, many choose two spend hours in the lake. There are plenty of opportunities som social or read a book in one of the cozy corners of the plot. It is gene rally seen som people go to bed quite early, since the day starts early ...
Saturday is half working day and ends 11.30. During Saturday afternoon people ofte play volleyball, football or get tanned at the lake plateau. Bonfire and a cold beer også a ofta used option. If you fancy nice walks there is plenty to see innenfor area. You can visit the surrounding villages or take a trip to Eventure Falls (2-3 hour walk to 110 meters falls).
Sunday is completely free and kan used for whatever you want. Men on Sundays you team up in order to cook the 3 meals of the day since there is not kitchen staff on Sundays!
P ractical information
Payment: It costs $ 40 per week to stay as a volunteer in the camp. This money kan paid in cash in enten U.S. dollars, Zambian kwacha or on our Danish account. Payment covers three meals a day, laundry, clean drinking water, free Electricity and a bed to sleep in..
Currency: In Zambia, it is safe-to-use Visa, but we recommend att you bring a few U.S. dollars in cash, as there are great distances mellem bank. If you are outside the capital du vil only kunne make very few card payments, so you have two cash-out money and travel about with cash.
Eventure kiosk: We have a small shop on the plot elsewhere cigarettes, beer, soft drinks, chocolates and crackers, chips and apples are sold. Prices are very reasonable oak a beer is 2 usd, a coca cola ice 1 usd ...
Sleeping Conditions: There are two huts on the plot with 12 beds in each. Woodhouse is reserved for the tourist groups som visit the plot, while the Stone House is for the volunteers. There are mattresses and mosquito nets as well as shelves for personal Belonging. You must bring your own sheets, sleeping bag and pillow.
Water: We drink filtered water and the drinking water is available to the dining hall. All showers are taget in the lake elsewhere good facilities are build, kan trust the fact att you will not miss the hot shower while you are here.
Toilet Facilities: There are six well-functioning toilets on the plot - all with running water and toilet paper. Common for all toilets er at toilet paper must be put in the bins next to the toilets.
Diseases: If an accident Occurs or if you bli sick, Glenn and Julie bliver available to Any Time of Day. It is muligt treat wounds, infections and gastrointestinal problems.
Most people experience a few days with diarrhea but since all meals are made in our own facilities the kitchen hygiene is kept intact.
Medicine: We do sell a medicine kit at the plot with different kinds of medicine you ska probably need vid your stay. It costs $ 90 and contains malaria medicine (deltaprim som recommended here), different kinds of antibiotics, pills for stomach problems, anti estamine etc.
Packing List
It is vigtigt practical clothes, som kan expect being dirty musts of the hour, as it is used daily for work. Remember solid working shoes as well.
Most airlines having the following rule: 20-25 kg of luggage and 8-10 kg of hand luggage. Normally, it is skrevet on the ticket, otherwise you-can contact your airline.
Here are suggestions on what to take along när traveling:
In your great travel backpack 70 liter:
- 5-6 Light T-Shirts
- 1-2 blouses / shirts with long sleeves
- 2 pairs of thin, long pants
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 2-4 pairs of socks
- A few dresses + a sarong
- Poncho and a rain cover, som kan cover the large pack (needed in rainy season)
- A fleece
- knife, fork, spoon, soup plate and cup - designed for camping in the open
- Sleeping bag and a mat if you go on trips
- Head Lamp
- Swimwear
- A good pair of walking shoes or sneakers
- sandals / flip flops
- hat and sunglasses
- A small and a large towel
- Toilet Gear
- Tampons / sanitary
- Sunscreen (high factor: 40-50)
- If you wear glasses or contact lenses, it's a good idea two bring an extra pair
- Books - we hope you vil bring a good book for our library.
- Trousers to relax in.
- Batteries
- Adapter (in Zambia we use plugs like in the United Kingdom)
Other good stuff: Diving mask and snorkel (no feet) + swimming goggles if you want to swim in the morning, gear for fishing
In your money belt: Passport, currency (U.S. dollars), credit cards (Visa), airline tickets, insurance policy, vaccination cards, a passport photo
In your small rucksack 30 35 L: Journal / notebook, camera, memory card. Maybe a memory stick for your digital photo album, if you want to share with others

Travel Advice
Arrive at the airport in Dar es Salaam:
Visa: you ska pay for your visa när you arrive at the airport. It costs 50 USD, payable in cash at the counter after landing.

Accommodation:

The walk to the fish market takes approx. 1 hour each way, remember water - temperature in Dar is situated around 31 degrees.
• kan også take the Kigamboni ferry from the harbor til southern beaches elsewhere there are nice beaches and the nature is more exotic. If you have more than one day this is recommended as Dar is not a very interesting capital.
Depart from Dar with Tazara Train:

• The train is a true African experience and must be tested. If you choose the train, it's a good idea to book a ticket from home, at the latest one week before. Send an email with a booking for a first class cabin, with name, date and how many seats you want and ask for a confirmation. A Zambian visa is $ 50 IMPORTANT: Indicate att you are traveling for pleasure, NEVER Require for a work visa, since de vil might not provide you 3 months. REMEMBER receit OF A VISA!
• It is a good idea two raise some money at the airport. (Barclays) kan max 1.8 million. kw.
• Check in for the bus is at 15.00. Departure approx. to 16.00.
If you are you taking the bus the same day:
• Find a taxi from the airport til the bus station.
• Go with the bus company "Juldan Motors' til destination Mpulungu - Lake Tanganyika. The front seats are most comfortable. Buy ticket. (About 160,000 kw.) (Plus a luggage fee if they think it's a good idea THAT DAY.)
• Do you have hours before the bus leaves, you-can-go-to "Levy centers" very close to the station. There is a supermarket and you-can buy what you need for the plot (mosquito repellent, etc..) Plus food for the bus trip
If you stay a night in Lusaka before the bus trip:
• It is advantageous to buy the bus ticket as fast as mulige after you arrive in Lusaka and then take a taxi to Lusaka Backpackers. It is a very nice place with lots of backpackers, a nice bar and swimming pool, good prices and nice food.
Arrival at Mpulungu:
• Arrival mellem 6-9 in the morning. Send a message to Glenn or Julie on arrival.
• Find MAPS Supermarket. It is a yellow and blue big. Here kan get something to eat and drink and you bliver picked up Any Time soon.
• The boat ride to the plot finner approx. 1 hour.

You have been busy as a volunteer on the basis of a specific jurisdiction. You will primarily be doing work within your competence, but you should also expect to give an extra hand for other tasks.
This you must be prepared as a volunteer:
- You must be able to work independently and be able to structure your own work.
- It is expected that you are ambitious and have their own visions about the project and your work.
- In order to create a good work ethic, expected good communication between the volunteers and the local workers.
- It is important for the project, you can activate yourself and have some self-discipline.
- You must also clean up after you every day, both the plot and where you live.
- Remember that the volunteers have different ages and needs-respect this!
Being a volunteer is not equal to being a tourist. It is expected that by working hard and ambitious to send the project in the right direction.
Working at Eventure camp
A typical day on the plot:
Breakfast - 06.30
Working - 07:00 to 11:30
Lunch - 11.30 to 13.00
Work - 13.00 to 16.00
Dinner - 17.30
A typical working day is 7.5 hours. When not working, there is time for relaxation and social activities. When the workday ends 16.00, many choose to jump in the lake, where you can relax, listen to music and swimming in the crystal clear water. There are plenty of opportunities to be social or immerse themselves in a book in one of the cozy corners of the plot. Usually you go to bed early, at about 20-21 o'clock, when the workday starts early.
Saturday is a half day and ending 11.30. Then there is the opportunity to play volleyball, football or sunbathe on rush mats down on the plateau at the lake. If the mood is to bålhygge and cold beer, it is also possible for this. If you like to hike and see the area you can visit the surrounding villages or take a trip to Eventure Falls.
Sunday is completely free and can be used for anything you want, however you are here part of a kitchen team who makes one of today's 3 meals.
Practical information
Payment:

The water from the lake is filtered and is then drink clear. Al bathing takes place in the lake. The shower has been replaced by bath with beautiful fish and panoramic views.
Toilet Facilities:
There are six well-functioning toilets on the plot - all with running water and toilet paper, but NOT to go in the toilet.
Disease:
If an accident occurs and you get sick while you're down here, will Glenn and Julie be available at any time of day. It is possible to treat wounds, infections and stomach problems.
Since bacterial flora is different in Zambia than in Denmark, it is quite normal and harmless to stomach problems and diarrhea while you are down here.

As you can not get screws in Zambia, it would be nice if you could pass Harald Nyborg and buy a package or 2 with!
Travel Advice
